The Kasaragod-based Central Plantation Crops Investigation Institute (CPCRI) has introduced a portable coconut sap chiller for the collection of hygienic and unfermented sap (‘Kalparasa’) from the coconut spadix.
KB Hebbar, Head of Plant Physiology, Biochemistry and Article-Harvest Technological know-how of CPCRI, instructed BusinessLine that while the institute experienced previously made a coconut sap chiller, production of it was a time-consuming method as it experienced to be assembled manually. With the improve in demand from the coconut-escalating States for the chiller, the timely source of the device was a little bit tricky.
He stated now the institute, with the money guidance from the Kochi-based Coconut Advancement Board (CDB), has created and fabricated moulds expected for the big-scale creation of coconut sap chiller. The moulds have already been commissioned for the commercial creation of the coconut sap chiller.
The new portable coconut sap chiller is a double jacketed box made of HDPE
